What would be your signature issue as First Lady?
We live in the district where both the Columbine and Bailey school shootings occurred. I am a retired teacher and feel very strongly that child safety, whether it be physical safety in the school or protection from other predators such as those on the Internet are vital to the well-being of our children.
Who is your First Lady role model?
All of them! Each has contributed in her own way to the nation at great personal expense to herself and her family. It is a position which attracts a lot of criticism and very little appreciation.
What don't we know about your spouse?
That Tom is the unofficial fourth tenor of the famous Three Tenors. I remember laughing so hard as he stood on our balcony singing with Pavarotti complete with his white handkerchief. He loves to sing be it with the three tenors, the five grandkids, or his Marty Robbins favorite, 'Out in the west Texas town of El Paso ...'
What do you like most about the campaign trail?
The amazing people who spend so much of their time, treasure, and talent to participate in the American political process. It reaffirms my faith in our government of the people, by the people and for the people. What a country!
What do you like least?
Airport hassles--security screening, weather delays, mechanical delays, flight cancellations, and the myriad of other excuses to keep me in airports for hours and hours not knowing where I will finally end up at the end of the day!
Would you expect to have a say in the President's policies?
No.
What's the one TV show you and your spouse try not to miss?
Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader? Our oldest grandson, Thomas, is just beginning 6th grade and we often feel like we don't know as much as he does. I don't think they'll make an Are you Smarter than a Sixth Grader program, so then I guess we're on our own!
What's the one campaign food that you could go your whole life never eating again?
Anything they sell at airport concessions.
